I just noticed that Napster is going to be bought up by the internet porn group Private Media. Presumbly they just want to use the name to redirect to a sex site. Seems to me that it's a sad end to a pioneering company. Before Napster led the way I remember spending hours trying to find mp3 following many many broken links along the way.

    RIP Napster

My wife has used Napster as a case study in her ethics class. ("Is it wrong to deprive Eminem of zillions of dollars in royalties by downloading his, um, tunes?")

I found Napster tremendously helpful, for my folk dance teaching, to find lots of old, copyright free songs -- Albanian 78's and suchlike.

to the Grateful Dead on matters of
    lost royalties, alternative ways of
    getting their music out, etc.*
