Hello, I have until tomorrow to find an on-line course for my husband Bob. (Introduction to Special Education). Ironically the school he was ready to sign with will not take his GPA 2.93. They require a 3.0. This makes me laugh. I am e-mailing schools like crazy but hope someone can point out something I am missing. Emporia has the perfect course but it is full. Even on-line courses get filled to the max. Have a good afternoon. Hille:)

Does it have to be on line or can it just be distance learning. Liberty University has a distance learning Masters degree in Special Education and a number of other education areas that quailify for licensure in VA. The courses may be on line but may also be lectures on VHS tape. Course wrok should meet his needs.

Liberty is a Regionally Accredited school with a nice bricks & mortar campus.

If you get dirt desperate and his employer will accept it...Berne University International Graduate School (accredited in St. Kitts & listed in UNESCO's Handbook) has a Masters in Special Ed and does offer on line courses (not sure whether the Spec Ed are on line or not). CAUTION.......May not transfer to an RA school. But if all you need to do is register may work.

***I would defintely try Liberty and anything else first.

Wow, they won't consider making an exception for him? That's just nuts.

Maybe you could get Emporia to let him into their course, even though it's full. I've managed to get into "full" courses in the past by being persistent.

Hi, Thanks for the replys and suggestions. It can be on-line. video, or basically anything that is RA and fits the course description. I had a talk with the advisor from Fort Hayes who volunteered to e-mail his supervisor course descriptions. This has potential but I am not counting on it. The price is great. The person on the phone couldn't have been more helpful. Please keep the ideas coming. Hille

You might find what you are looking for in the Course List for Nova Southeastern University’s National Graduate Teacher Education Online Programs. For example, EXE 500 Introduction to Exceptional Learners may fit the needed description.

The University of Michigan Dearborn might have a few applicable courses as they offer several Master of Education in Special Education programs.

Lastly, the University of Phoenix offers a continuing education course entitled Characteristics of Learning Disabilities (SPE 527), but because it is a Continuing Education course, it may not transfer into a Graduate degree program.

    U.Missour system

When I was looking for distance learning courses, I liked the State of Missouri system for on-line classes. I never did take a class through them. As I recall they did have a broad mix of classes.
However, while the interstate system can be used to earn a degree, there might not be one in special ed.
Most masters programs will accept 9 semester transfer credits. So a person could take some through the Missouri state system and then transfer them into another program.
    All the best!

Hello and thanks for all the suggestions. Bob just signed up for Special Education course through Fort Hayes. They have some new options through the Cerficate program with Professional Focus. Have a great Wednesday. Hille
