What are your thoughts on bump stock bans? Just curious. I realize this current dude didn't use bump stocks, but still. I am not anti gun, so I am not interested in taking anyone's guns away. No guns were taken away from Carter, Clinton or Obama, and they will never be taken away. I have a friend who is a hardcore righty, and he keep talking about the Dems wanting to take guns away. I don't know, I have never seen guns taken away from the left. Nobody wants to kill the second amendments just because backgrounds checks and peoples mental health wellness are under scrutiny.

What do you all think? For the record, I am a gun owner myself despite being a "lefty".

A month or so ago I didn't know what a bump stock was. I wish I'd never had to learn. This latest shooting is proof that there were mass crimes before the days of bump stocks and will be mass crimes after. (And I think, if they're banned, some people will start to home-brew them. Doesn't look difficult.) I'll refrain from preaching to Americans what they don't want to hear. I will say, however, it's a terrible thing that this sick individual was not on FBI radar, due to negligence - not reporting his earlier offence.

It won't bring the deceased victims back, or heal the surviving ones, but this negligence (lack of report) should be thoroughly investigated and those responsible held accountable. Perhaps, down the line, that might prevent some other known lunatic from buying firearms with the intent of deadly destruction of innocent people.

No more to say - except my sympathy to the victims and their families. And I hope not to have to say that again too many times in the future. However ... no shortage of lunatics, it seems.

I saw a video ad for a bump stock about a year ago. My first thought was that it was a good way to spend a lot of money fast. It wouldn't surprise me to learn they were invented by the same people who sell ammunition.

While I wouldn't sign a petition to keep them legal, I don't see the value in owning one. I fired fully automatic weapons when in the army. They are meant for spraying bullets, not accurate aiming.

I can also see the argument for not banning. It becomes a 'where do we stop on this slippery slope?' argument. Do we also need to ban high capacity magazines, semiautomatic weapons, single shot weapons, muzzle loaders?

I am generally of the opinion that questions like this don't always have right answers. Maybe just file bump stocks under the category of automatic weapons. It is my understanding that fully automatic weapons are legal to own if one has the right permits. I believe the permits are not easy to obtain. The next thing we have to do is determine at what rate of fire is a weapon considered fully automatic.

You can make a bump stock like device with rubber bands.

    Ban rubber bands.
