Lately, I spend my nights and days pacing in circles, no sleep. I wonder how long my body can take this? Does anyone else suffer from insomnia. As of this writing, I literally get zero sleep for days, weeks at a time.

These are questions for your doctor.

The doc has me on Trazadone, but i have built tolerance to it. I have lived on zero sleep for weeks now. I am just wondering how long this can keep up. I have talked to my doctor, and he is limited in sleep aids due to the fact that for certain reasons I cannot take narcotics, which are pretty much they only thing that works! I am currently living in virtual hell of no sleep or rest.

Oh, man Abner. That sound brutal. I'm an insomniac too, but I've never experienced anything as bad as that.

On my worst streaks, I walk for hours at a time until my body won't let me continue. THEN I spend some quality time reading my car's factory service manual. Eventually, mind and body wear out completely and it has no choice but to sleep.

I agree with Steve. If you have really gone weeks without sleep, you could be experiencing major damage to your brain, disruption to your metabolism, breakdown of your muscles, etc. You need to get back to your doctor ASAP and tell him that what you're doing isn't working.

I emailed my doc recently. If he doesn't take it seriously, then I will email my other doc. Something has to be done. I am starting to see "tracers"! The last time I remember sleeping for about an hour from exhaustion, I had horrific dreams about death. Not very relaxing to say the least.

You can try a program like this, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F.lux, if you much use the computer at night.

You can try melatonin. When I've gotten out of sync just a small amount has done the trick. I've broken 3mg tablets into quarters and taken one quarter.

Consider meditation. Many believe it has a very positive effect on insomnia. My wife, who has practiced it for half a century, wrote an awfully nice little book for people who want to get started, or try it out: The Little Book of Meditation and Stress Relief by Marina Bear, published by SLG Books. I'll be happy to send a free copy to anyone who emails an address to me at [email protected]
