Does anyone have an Apple X (10) phone yet and, if so, what are your experiences and thoughts about it... so far?

Just bought one from Costco (they were in-stock at the kiosk) and after the sale was completed, the salesman surprisingly said he likes the Android model better. He said that the android and Apple both use the same technical infrastructure from the same company.

Costco Wireless - Big Savings on Cell Phones - Offering Plans from Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint.

Buying a phone (and contract) has become like buying a car: it's complicated, confusing and expensive. The customer needs to take a shower when it's all over.

I keep my phones until they no longer work correctly, right now I have an iPhone 7Plus that I'm perfectly happy with. It does everything I want/need, plus a lot of stuff I don't need and have no idea how to use.

When it finally craps out, I'll get the latest version of the iPhone, whatever it may be at the time, simply because I'm comfortable with the Apple platform and I know I'm going to have it for a long time.

That could be but I wouldn't take it whole.

Ditto. We purchased the Apple 6 when it was new, but it lost it's ability to keep a charge and many reviews indicated that changing the battery would not fix it, so we got the new Apple X.

The old plan (under Sprint) was a phone lease e.g. after the phone is paid-off, the customer continues to "lease" it, which is a rip-off. Food for thought before anyone goes to Sprint.

Here is a cost-saving plan for anyone who is a Costco member with an executive membership and a Discover card:

    1. Buy the Apple X when it's on sale e.g. there is a $125 Costco cashback sale, at the time of this writing (11.5.17).

    2. Use your Costco Visa executive credit card for a 4% cashback. However, they will only allow you to pay-off up to 50% of the cost when you buy your phone.

    3. After 14 days have elapsed (from the date of purchase), you are allowed to pay-off the remaining balance. Use your Discover card to get 3% cashback on the remaining balance.

    4. Pay-off all your Costco Visa and Discover credit cards to avoid paying interest. You can afford to earn interest, but you cannot afford to pay it.

Ok, that's all fine and good - but totally distracting people from the fact that they are buying a ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR PHONE. <<boggles mind>>

Yes, that is totally true. This writer would gladly settle for something that is significantly less expensive. However, when a loving family member wants one... and is an Apple junkie... then it's hard to reprogram them.

The cost is like buying an expensive pocket-portable laptop.

If this writer were alone, then this writer would have an inexpensive android and would be paying a $35 monthly phone/internet fee.

Was that salesman possibly referring to the widely known fact that nearly all smartphone chips (including Apple and Android) use the ARM architecture for their CPU?

The ARM architecture is very versatile. I have two single-board ARM-based computers at home: A Raspberry Pi and a Beaglebone Black. They both cost $50-60, run Linux and are fun to play with. Python and Scratch run well on them, for my amateur programming purposes. For phone calls I use my ultra-reliable 9 or 10-year-old flip phone. It cost me almost nothing to buy - and costs about $10 a month for air-time.

I will never buy any Apple device - though they're quite good, technically. Reason: the late Steve Jobs. I read that he did a couple of things in his life that make him not my type of guy. Enough said.

Have several people who have the Apple X ($999) & Note 8 ($936), fair to place them as the top two new phones on the market. Pixel 2 ($899) is a strong third contender and coming in at a cost value compared to 1 & 2. When buying a phone most spend too much time focused on the retail cost and not enough time chasing the deal battles in play from each carrier (e.g T Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint) and holiday specials that bring the greatest savings (e.g. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas).

If you can return you Costco purchase and hold tight for a couple of weeks, Black Friday is sure to knock off $250 - $400 on the price through discounts and carrier credits. Navigating phone purchases for my daughters, wife and me has pushed for a heavy focus on searching out the deals :)

We currently have the Apple 7s for the girls and they are more than happy with the speed, video and picture quality. I am due for an upgrade passing on the Note 7 (some silly fire issue ;) and now most likely getting the Note 8 come Black Friday.

    Good Luck!!

I don't think I'll spend $1k on my next phone, but I'll likely spend several hundred. For me, a smartphone isn't just a phone; it's a portable computer and camera. I have a large laptop at home because it's so hard to find decent desktops these days. The other option would have been to buy a small laptop and a monitor. On the go, my smartphone is more like a small tablet. I can even connect it to a wireless keyboard and write papers.
