    I think the key term is "suppresion", not silence.
    XVI.8: Confucius said, "There are three things of which the superior man stand in awe. He stands in awe of the ordinances of Heaven. He stands in awe of great men. He stands in awe of the words of the sages. The mean man does not know the ordinances of Heaven, and consequently does not stand in awe of them. He is disrespectful to great men.     Whoah...interesting to see my hometown on here. Last time anyone was curious about our little hovel was when the Rachel Dolezal thing kicked off.

    Perhaps it should also be pointed out that sound suppression is only one part of the job. The other part is suppression of muzzle flash.

    There apparently are combination sound/flash suppressors but they are not common.
