Cops are much more fun to hang out with than college professors, trust me on that one.

People tend to like those who like them.

When it comes to university professors, I don't particularly like them as an occupational group.

I'm inclined to treat professors as resource-people that I can use. They presumably have deep knowledge about the narrow subjects of their dissertations, and shallower knowledge of the subjects they teach regularly. But then it comes to matters of general interest remote from the subjects they teach, I don't typically think that their views are any better than my own and I certainly don't defer to them.

I'm also increasingly skeptical about many of the trendier academic subjects ('critical race theory' for example) and some of the trendier contemporary emphases within traditional subjects. Many of these subjects have become so politicized that I find them largely worthless. More and more of what university presses and faculty at the top-ranked prestige universities are churning out these days is little more than drivel in my estimation.

I do have a better opinion about some of the subjects I still follow more closely such as 'analytic' epistemology, metaphysics and philosophical logic, or subjects like phylogenetics and cell biology. While some of the professors who teach these things might personally be very political, the subjects themselves don't lend themselves to politicization nearly as much as do the humanities and the social "sciences".

Frankly, at this stage of my life (my 60's) I don't really anticipate taking another university class or ever again submitting to a professor. I already have a BA and an MA, and I don't need any more degrees. That doesn't mean that I have lost my intellectual curiosity. It's just that I have a bookshelf full of academic titles waiting to be read and I feel fully qualified to assign my own readings.

Hmm... The report states that "Republicans rated teachers and professors much lower than Democrats". (my emphasis)

Where does it state that Republicans hate education?
