Ex-CIA Director Resigns From Harvard Over Chelsea Manning Hire

I don't consider myself a political person, but I do not think hiring her is a good thing.

I understands both sides here. Harward wanted Chelsea Manning to come speak; it's reasonable to assume she has something worthwhile to say on the topic (transgender in the military). I can clearly see why Michael Morell is upset; Harvard seemingly gave a title similar to his own to the person he sees as a convicted felon and a traitor (and she is, after all, a convicted felon).

At the end of the day, Harvard should have held a workshop with Manning for those who wished to have that discussion, without naming her anything. She is not a villain of this story for me, and even I'm a bit uncomfortable with Harvard on this. She was not a legitimate whistleblower; all the diplomatic cables leak did was harming US interests. She was a kid with mental health issues her superiors missed, and as a result she imploded and did a very dumb thing. Blame is on whoever let her have access to secrets to begin with, but it doesn't mean the act was OK. Therefore, it's problematic to signal it was OK like Harvard seemingly did.
