And another one down, and another one down, another one bites the dust.

Other countries can do whatever they want. But then again I'm some sort of weirdo nut who thinks the basic arrangement of the world into 200 separate countries is, on the whole, a pretty good idea.

Gandhi has long been a Western icon.

Well he's racist now, and that's that. He's got to be taken down.

"In light of the petition and protests on social media, Ghana’s government wants to relocate the statue “to ensure its safety and to avoid the controversy,” "

I think it's important to note that, much like here in America, it's not the racists who pose the safety threat in question, but the misinformed and self-righteous. Since I don't know anything about the social landscape of Ghana, I can't draw further comparisons, but here in America there are so few actual full blown racists that their voice is but a whimper and their threat way overstated.

It's nice to know that the majority of people in our part of the world are not racists. The change might not be 100% complete, and maybe it never will be, but I for one am happy to celebrate the progress! However, we now also have millions of people who don't realize how powerless and irrelevant racists are and will stop at nothing to completely obliterate a next-to imaginary threat, rather than working towards meaningful, rational social progress. I, for one, am scared at what this will lead to.
