What is the big deal about being on FB?

I'm not on Facebook either. The closest thing I have to any social media account are a few forum memberships and gaming site accounts, all of which being anonymous. I don't like putting myself out there to strangers like that. So, no, you're not the only one, but as soon as you cave in, I'll probably be the only one :D

Well, it's a fantastic way to procrastinate when you have work to do....

I had a Facebook account for about 6 months, around 9-10 years ago. Hated it. Been off ever since.

    No. That's Degreeinfo!

I have a facebook page with virtually nothing on it. I use it to look up things/groups/people. It's like lots of other hobbies in that it can be fun but, if taken to an extreme it can be a waste of time or even cause problems.

Well, we could keep track of how many rats you've wasted since you won't keep us apprised here. ;-)

    I'm not on Facebook.

On second thought, I don't want to know.

I'm on Facebook, it's been a great way to reconnect and stay in touch with my uncle & cousins in Florida, old Army buddies, and high school classmates. I can put up pictures of my children, and everyone in my family (that are on Facebook) has instant access to them. Much more convenient then emailing pictures to a bunch of different people when someone asks "How are the kids?"

I'm also addicted to this stupid game on there, War Commander.

I was on facebook but they screwed up my account and I no longer remember the password for the new account. Screw 'em.

Aside from the stupid game, you make good use of FB. Others make imaginary friends, inform the world of when would be the best time to burgle them and thrill with stories of what they had for lunch.

I use FB as a way to create an online community for homeschoolers that want to earn college credit. I did that because it was totally free. I started my page in 2012 and then in 2015 I added groups for each state as well as a marketplace for parents to buy/sell/swap their used college credit and testing resources. So, I have about 50 pages on FB that I monitor every day (there are tons of volunteers that help- I don't do it alone) But finally in December I started a website (which I have to pay for) which actually has more followers than 5 years of grinding on FB!?! The only downside, is that by adding a medium that costs money, I've had to do some affiliate marketing (which I hate) to pay for the site - but FB is awful for archiving valuable content. Still, FB is still my method of choice for my blog/site because it's free and easy.

Oh, but my personal site? I hardly use it at all. Maybe 10 posts per month and those are mostly photos for friends/family.

I think you are still counted as among the eighty billion members they claim.

It's a tool like any other. Good things about it and bad things about it. Depends on the user however, and as we know people can be real shits. I stay on mostly for the voyeuristic capabilities. Some people and the stuff they put on Facebook is incredibly fascinating in a macabre way.

I keep in touch with my Marine friends through there. I also belong to some groups; Cycling, Judo, Skateboarding, Tennis, Golf, etc for activities that I enjoy.

It works if you don't think too much about it or over analyze it I suppose.

You are in to skateboarding? My friend is still going strong, and he is in his fifties now:

Matt and I started a Facebook group for people in the University of the Cumberlands Phd and EdD programs. We've helped a lot of people who are interested in the programs get good information about them, and helped a lot of current students trade information about what courses to take, etc.

That is rad! It's something I've enjoyed since the early 80's. Actually Instagram is much better for skaters, especially older ones. There's a lot out there, and they're very supportive. We post clips of our "skating" and everyone is stoked on what you're doing no matter what. It's also an activity that I enjoy with two of my sons.
