About an hour ago, the following occured: I have "Todays Active Topics" bookmarked and when I tried to access it, it brought up the following screen: Here Was the link hijacked or bypassed by an internet terrorist? < scratching head > Then when I typed in "degreeinfo.com" it brought up the following screen: Here Both of the above incidents were repeated several times to make sure it wasn't a "one time event." So, uhhhh, was this site hacked? < continues scratching head >
CAUTION: Internet Terrorist Ahead !!! I'm reasonably certain that DegreeInfo was hijacked, though I have no proof and I concede that I could be wrong. Having said that... It got me to thinking: Why would someone disrupt the services that are provided by this website? What is the motive? What is the hatred? < assuming I'm not off on a diatribe >
Service Hi, When I tried to log on about 6 I had a page that was protesting many things about Oberlin College. The faculty, housing, and general statements about what the TRUE STORY IS were listed. Very weird. Hille
Nope, it's not a hijacking, just a technical glitch I could go into a long technical explanation, but in a nutshell, we're in the process of moving DegreeInfo to a different server in the same data center. (The server it is currently on is a little overloaded, and DegreeInfo is one of the main culprits.) During the first stage of the migration, two servers were both responding to DegreeInfo requests for a short time, but the new server didn't have the site installed. So a few people were, for maybe 10 minutes, getting served the websites of other customers of the same ISP until the new server's ability to respond for DegreeInfo was turned off. The real migration (of the message database) will probably happen late tonight, and the message forum will be down for maybe an hour when that happens. Sorry for the confusion!
It seems to be working as I am typing this message, but I appreciate your warning about this evening's changeover, Chip. Darren.
Glad that's over! I thought I was typing the wrong address because I also accessed something concerning Oberlin College. I did this several times, then I left for a while came back and things were normal.
Meat your new associates I typed degreeinfo.com into my browser today for the first time in a couple of months and it took me to this address (on repeated attempts): http://www.carolinabison.com/index2.html Bizarro. I didn't even know there were bison in the Carolinas. -Rab P.S. Using www.degreeinfo.com got me here OK.
