It's amazing how quickly Northwestern sanitized their university website and eliminated all references to this guy.

He used to have a webpage on the medical school website, it's gone. He used to be on the Center for Genomic Medicine webpage, he's gone. He used to be on the Department of Bacteriology-Immunology's webpage, he's gone. Apparently he was PI in his own laboratory, but that lab's page has been taken down. Everything's gone and the guy has become a non-person overnight.

They seem to have overlooked this single 'experts' page.

Other than that, the only other Northwestern acknowledgement that Latham used to work for them is a university statement saying that he represents no threat to the university community. (That was obviously a pious wish, since he was still on the run and his location was unknown when they wrote it.)

It a little unseemly how furiously the university is trying to distance themselves from their guy. I wonder what's going to happen to the doctoral students who were presumably working under him. (Working under who? Never heard of him.) I assume that they will be redistributed to other faculty.

The fact that these two boffins were in an apartment (an AirB&B short-term rental?) with a murdered male hair-stylist and that the unfortunate stylist was found with his genitals mutilated, along with the fact that these guys fled to San Francisco, kind of suggests a night of sex gone very very bad.

If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to share some hairstylist in you lair.

Maybe it was a night of sex gone very very good. Not everyone sees things just as you do, you know.

    Yes, facetious.

    It's been taken down too.

It seems that the apartment was the Northwestern professor's home, and the hair stylist was his boyfriend. Prosecutors said today at the two boffins' bail hearing that they had been discussing killing a random person for sexual pleasure for some time on an internet discussion forum. Lathem (the Northwestern guy) paid the Oxford guy's airfare to Chicago and paid for a place for him to stay. They entered the professor's apartment about 4 in the morning, where the boyfriend was peacefully asleep. The Northwestern guy started stabbing the boyfriend over and over in the chest and neck area, while the Oxford guy as supposed to be filming the murder with his cell-phone.

The boyfriend woke up and started struggling. The Oxford guy hit the unfortunate boyfriend in the head with a heavy lamp. Then the Northwestern guy want to the kitchen to get bigger knives and they both stabbed the boyfriend over and over, totaling something like 70 stab wounds. His last words were, "Wyndham, what are you doing?" Prosecutors say that his throat was then cut and his head was almost severed. Lots of blood.

The judge ordered that both boffins be held in a Chicago jail awaiting trial without bail.
