Oldest daughter and son-in-law (my former grad assistant) just had first, a baby boy. Very proud new grandpa. Wife called from hospital and said they're doing fine. Proud as a peacock!

Congratulations! I love grandfatherhood. Most of the joys of parenting, without the diaper changes and 3 am. wailing. And the ongoing vicarious pleasures.*

Congrats! It's the best! I have four grandchildren, ages 9-18. If I'd known how much fun they were going to be, I'd have had them first!

    Awesome, congratulations! :beerchug:

Now you get to spend time with a cute baby, then a cute toddler, and get to give him back when he becomes a pain in the ass!

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE KIND WORDS!

Sorry for the late response. Immediately after grandchild, finals week started and I just dove in with grading, fielding student emails ("Hey prof, I know I got 12% in your class, but will let me do an extra credit paper or something to get an A? I'm on academic probation and YOUR class will get me kicked out of school, so it's all YOUR fault."), and dealing with administration ("Get those grades in by Sunday at noon! We have to have 100% compliance with the Registrar's Office or global thermonuclear tragedy will surely befall us all!). So it has been kind of busy the last week, what with teaching an overload and new grandbaby and all. In any event, thanks to everyone. Saw the kiddo last night, and of course he's the cutest baby in the world (not like I'm biased or anything).

You clearly teach as a FT online faculty member. Is your employer for-profit or non-profit? Please do not disclose which school you work for.

Nonprofit, State U, to be more specific, Directional State U. Big enough university to play in bowl games, not big enough to play in big time bowl games, we're the ones who play schools like Michigan or Alabama early in the season so they can pad their records with 48 - 7 victories and we can get a nice guarantee to help with the athletic budget.
