My own reputation is either beyond repair or needs no repair at all. I can't decide which. In any case, maybe one of our members is interested in some damage control. New Cost Effective Online Reputation Repair Service Designed for Attorney - Press Release - Digital Journal
In other words, they flood review sites with bogus glowing reviews of crappy law firms. It's a living, I guess.
An extremely interesting and worthwhile (I believe) book on this matter is "So You've Been Publicly Shamed"by Jon Ronaon (http://tinyurl.com/lvm3atr) He addresses the causes, the phenomenon, and what one can do about it. He addresses the phenomenon for individuals and organizations, whether they deserve it or not. I like his account of the man who invented the highway sign that says, "Speed Limit: 25 mph Your speed: 31 mph." He believed that public shaming would slow people down. He tried for years to sell it to cities, but not one bought. So he installed a bunch at his own expense, and they worked (and still work) spectacularly well, and now he has a thriving business.
Is that the idea? I don't slow down for those things out of shame, I slow down because I'm unsure whether there's a speed camera.
I suspect it may be a combination of shame and fear. As I recall from the book, most people slow down a bit, but not all the way . . . e.g., from 35 to 30 if it is a 25 mph zone.
