Chicago high school students may soon need to create a plan for their future in order to graduate.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel appeared on “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday to discuss his new proposal, which would require students to develop a post-high school plan before receiving a diploma.

Chicago would be the first city to adopt such a requirement if the measure is approved by the city’s board of education.

"My plan for the future is to develop political connections and then exploit then to get paid millions to work for a bank even thought I have no qualifications to do so."

My plan is to help the Prince move all his billions out of Nigeria, for which I will be handsomely compensated, and then move to Cape Cod where I will resume my responsibilities as East Coast liaison between the White Lotus and the Illuminati.

It's ridiculous. And it's asking for trouble. The diploma says the student has completed Grade 12. He/she has earned it - hand it over! No need for carrot or stick. Can you imagine the resentment this could build up? "Can't get a job, because they won't give me my diploma that I earned ..."

It's as stupid as withholding a marriage certificate until a couple specify how many kids they're going to have, have saved a down payment for a house etc. etc. I hope this kind of craziness doesn't start flying here. We have enough varieties of our own.

The way things are going, maybe a University will try it next. I can see it now. "No Bachelor's unless you're accepted for a grad. degree or have a job, internship etc. Don't care if you have 100K in student loans...."

    Think of the ramifications:

"You can fall down - but you can't die."

By order, no death certificate can be granted until the deceased:

    • Has fulfilled all his/her life's goals - educational, vocational, financial, spiritual etc.
    • Has provided financially for at least two succeeding generations
    • Has atoned fully for all wrongs committed in life. Caution - these are fully documented by The Officials.

The Ringling clown college closed in 1997. Now that Ringling is shutting down it's circus it hardly seems necessary.

This is the most asinine thing I have ever heard of. Honestly, what the hell does the govt think they have any business in my kid's future? And to hold a diploma hostage? Idiot.

Same as it every was. Perhaps the problems might be endemic to the people and not everything else around them?

"He wants to alter the paths for people like Curtis Toler, a Chicago native who joined a gang at age 9, was running a branch of that gang by age 16, and by age 17—after finding the body of his mother who’d been killed by his stepfather—resorted to life as a gang leader, with frequent trips in and out of prison"

A letter will help someone like this? 9? Joined a gang at 9? And then running the gang at 16? He could have stopped right there and said this is not the life for me. See's his dead Mom and decides; "I'm gonna saddle up on stupid and ride it all the way in". Not, wow violence killed my Mom I'd like to honor her memory. Or maybe I should try something else and see if the result might be different.

In Rahm's eyes, all Curt needed was a plan to keep going to school. Hundreds of stupid personal decisions made and it'll all be fixed with "a plan".

These people have been in charge of education since the 70's. And it's still the same and worsening.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like he had the same opportunity to learn to think critically that you did.

I missed this thread when it was originally posted, but here's a doozy from the first article: “The school system of K through 12 is not applicable to the world and the economy and the world that our high school students are graduating to. So we’re moving to a pre-K to college model.”"

Yeah, so, what we are doing isn't working, so let's do even more of it!

The fact that 13 years of formal, institutionalized education STILL isn't enough is absolutely pathetic, and I don't even know who should be blamed for that, but there are literally hundreds of millions of victims.
