I learned how to tile my kitchen, front porch, bathroom, and shower stall! Did it all myself. Yeah baby! Looking pretty bitchin. The kitchen floor, bathroom floor and shower stall are black and white checkers. The porch is gray granite tile. I had the front of the tub specially painted black, the inside and rim are white.

Yes, but can you transfer the credits through ACE? :)

That's great, Abner! That has to be extremely satisfying.

I remember hearing, years ago, that Home Depot had classes. I didn't know they were free. Free is right up my alley.

Probably could do a PLA through one of the big 3.

I love these too. I have managed to miss several, but my son attended many of the kid's versions through the years. I am seriously going to use these (along with the ones at Lowe's) to build an Industrial Arts Homeschool class for my youngest in the next year or two. IA is so very hard to find, but these freebies will be so perfect. He is hard-core-industrial arts all day long.

Yeah, it's hard work, but once you get the hang of it, it goes pretty smoothly. I would have paid a fortune to have someone do it. The hardest part is learning how to cut the tiles without breaking them. It takes a smooth hand. We even had a black pedestal sink and a black toilet (Toto brand - I guess it's the Mercedes of toilets) put in the front bathrom with Chrome fixtures. If anyone is thinking of doing that, buy some rubber strap on knee guards, because you are on your knees a lot (that doesn't sound good :) )

That's cool. It's amazing how many things/classes are out that are out there for free! Laying tile is kind of fun, though it's hard work. Sure in satisfying though! I can't imagine how much I would have paid to have someone do it.

How do these classes work and what are they like? Who teaches them and where are they taught? Do they include hand's-on practice? (In the stores?) They are really free? (I suppose the motivation for offering them is to make people more confident about buying the materials for their home projects.)

I might be interested in doing this too.

Yeah, they are free. And yes, they have an hands on component. When I took my class, the dude who gave it was an ex tile setter. Usually HD hires people who have some kind of construction background for these purposes.

They taught how to mix up mortar, how to use a trowel, how to cut the tile and how to install the grout. They had various sheets of backer board so we could practice on!!!!!!!!

    Here is the info.:

They have WAY more classes than what is listed on the the link above, so just call. I took a class specifically on tile setting. You can't beat free!

I didn't know Lowe's had them as well. I LOVE HD and Lowe's. Your son sounds like a natural for IA. There is something very rewarding when you do your own home projects. Many times, the homeowner does a better job than the supposed experts. Good to teach a youngster how to work with their hands.

Oh, just a little tip about saving duckets at Home Depot

HD gives 10% discounts to military veterans. I usually go shopping with my neighbor who is a veteran, and he gets me his discount. He shows them some kind of veteran ID.

Also, Harbor Freight has REALLY good prices on things. All sorts of tools and things:
