From the great poet and wordsmith Jim Morrison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7hlpvz96_U It's a beautiful day and all of all the stars have aligned just right!
Very sad - Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, all gone at the same age - 27, between 1969 and 1971. I remember hearing the news on each one. I was 27 in 1970. Spanish Caravan Carry me Caravan take me away Take me to Portugal, take me to Spain Andalusia with fields full of grain I have to see you again and again Take me, Spanish Caravan Yes, I know you can Trade winds find Galleons lost in the sea I know where treasure is waiting for me Silver and gold in the mountains of Spain I have to see you again and again Take me, Spanish Caravan Yes, I know you can J.
This song transports my mind right over to Spain, a very beatiful place indeed. I have relatives there. Jim was a mighty fine musician, and a very talented poet. I really like the music videos the Doors made, like LA woman. When I was a kid, some guy was getting rid of a bunch of albums at a garage sale. I bought a bunch of them for 25cents each. I have also read his different books of poetry. I think I still have the albums, I just don't have a record player anymore. Fantastic!
Johann: "Very sad - Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, all gone at the same age - 27..." John: Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse . . . and the one whose picture was tacked to my wall (bonus points if you can figure out the logical reason why), Freaky Tah.
Off topic. Dr. Bear, whatever happened to those sort of poems you used to write about DI members? I think you used to write them around a holiday. I liked those.
Because he (Raymond Rogers, a.k.a. Freaky Tah, of Lost Boyz) also died at 27? Fatally shot by Kelvin Jones, March 28, 1999. J.
Oh yes, of course - Raymond Rogers was also the name of the proprietor of Vancouver Worldwide University. From Dr. Bear, here on DI in 2002: "These folks sued my publisher (but not me) a couple of years ago, because they didn't like their writeup (which was, essentially, that we didn't know enough to write them up in any detail). The suit, claiming that their business was devastated by not having a proper listing, was for US$6,000. It turned out that you can't sue for such things in small claims court, so that was the end of it. Raymond Rodgers, proprietor, Ph.D. Columbia, and authority on Cajun languages, seems very sincere about what he has been doing for 30 years, but my observation is that most Canadian and US academics generally don't take him seriously." It's here: http://www.degreeinfo.com/general-distance-learning-discussions/4249-vancouver-university.html BTW - the "27 Club" list has over 60 deceased musicians listed, on its wiki. J
Some give Dr. Rodgers credit for almost singlehandedly saving the languishing Cajun French language, many years ago. Among his good deeds was arranging the supply of French textbooks, obtained from Quebec, for Louisiana students. Aiyeee! Laissez les bons temps rouler! Zydeco sont pas salés! Où est mon accordéon? J.
