A benefit or drawback of Distance Education?

    Dr. Carlucci's study is quite interesting, but it would be interesting to know more details about how the it was conducted. For example, how did he objectively quantify the study parameters? Also, are his conclusions able to be replicated by other in the field in an empirically valid way?

    Personally, my experience with Athabasca has really had no effect on my socialisation skills whatsoever, nor my ability to meet and converse with new people.

    Interesting article. I have not completed a degree totally through distance learning, but partially completed my bachelors. However, I know that I was basically a shy person before I went to college, but some still are after college. My assumption is that my personality was shaped somewhat by my advisor. He refused to fight my battles with administration for me.

    As far as technology playing a role in shyness, it could or could not affect the people skills of a person. I would not see it as a contributing factor for the population as a whole.
