The highest paid college presidents can earn millions of dollars each year, but their students typically go on to make a small fraction of that.

The college presidents with the 10 highest salaries in either the public or the private school sphere earned a minimum of 15 times the average salary of their students who received financial aid 10 years after they entered the school. That’s according to a MarketWatch analysis of salary data from the Department of Education’s College Scorecard and the most recent presidential compensation data from the Chronicle of Higher Education’s list of top paid presidents. The Chronicle updated its list with the most recent private college data on Sunday, which covers 2014. The data from public colleges, which covers the 2014-2015 fiscal year, was updated over the summer.

That article is a noxious mixture of class envy, a false comparison of someone at the pinnacle of their career against those at the start of theirs, and the misguided notion that the purpose of college is vocational training.

Seeing the world through an ideological veil.

There is no class envy involved.

Ten years after the start of college is not the start of a career.

What notion of the purpose of college are you dictating?

I am a current WilmU student. I will defend this pay.

What they do not say is majority of the students are enlisted, or adults who are in the process of career shifting. Ever look at the GS scale?

WilmU charges $354 for under and $455 for graduate credit, in-state, out of state, or online. There are some minor exceptions, like if you are on base the rate is $250 & $300 respectively.
There are no death-by-thousand-fees. There is a registration fee, course fee, plus the books.

They run a tight ship, their instructors are attentive, and advisors I dealt with are responsive.

Love the credit for prior learning, ACE, CLEP, Dantes, and even some industry certs for classes.

So, am I lacking in anything? No. I get what I paid for, and I am getting it at a quality level at or better I expect.

If it is $4mm to get this fine oiled machine running, fine by me.

    Translation: "I disagree with you."

When the point is to talk about how much money the guy makes? Come on.

It's not exactly at the peak of one either. It's an obviously false comparison.

"Dictating"? None. But college isn't only about career prep, it's about students learning to think better and expand their exposure to different ideas. Well, ideally.
