    WWII, actually.

Hyperwar is hosted by ibiblio.org at UNC. ibiblio.org/hyperwar, as you might have guessed. If you're more interested in the real war, the planning and logistics, than in blood and guts then this is for you. I read some of it some time ago and don't recall much of it. I do recall that you can't look at war as you did before once you get an idea of what's involved in conducting a war. Yeah, you know but there is knowing and there is knowing. And more knowing but for that you had to have been there.

That we were able to make war across both major oceans was unprecedented and hard to comprehend.

ibiblio.org has a wide variety of material on many topics. But they hide it so you have to work to find it in wading through their crappy menus.

I know nothing of real war, thank goodness. But I've played many games of Axis and Allies, and one thing the game designers get right is the difficulty for the Americans to get resources from their territory to where it actually needs to be. Logistics plays a major role in what an experienced American player will even attempt to do.

That's why the U.S.Army had the second biggest navy. I've read that troops were often surprised to find they were being transported on an Army ship.
