    Somewhat similarly, I retain hope that a complete version of Gilgamesh may yet be found.

    This is cool. Computers have helped scholars decipher ancient documents for a long while. Here's a link to an illustrated paper on computer use with the Dead Sea Scrolls. http://www.cs.tau.ac.il/~nachumd/papers/Tamar.pdf

    I'd bet somewhat similar computer techniques are used on household or office garbage etc. by "security agencies" of various nations (including yours and mine) and probably freelance identity thieves as well.
