I wasn't aware there are programs out there to help with "braces". I used to work for Social Services, and things like braces were considered cosmetic and were not covered. Well, good for him anyway.
Maybe the dentist was a jerk. Maybe the kid just wants the attention. Sometimes people suck. But this story reminds me of a funny thing my brother did once. He was at a wedding and there was this incredibly arrogant dentist spouting off about his success. He was bragging about his boat, his practice, his new house etc. My brother said "Oh, what is it you do again?" The guy said "I'm a dentist." My brother said "Oh, I couldn't get into medical school either. Oh, excuse me..." and then he turned and broke off before the guy could respond.
