The ID requirement serves few purposes. When I go to vote they look up my name in the voter registration book. They find my name and I sign.

The idea that there are legions of illegal immigrants flocking to the polls on election day and voting is nothing but fantasy. And if you aren't in "the book" then you don't get to vote.

I have considered that registration to vote is simply a statement saying you are, in fact, eligible to vote. I suppose someone could try to pull the wool over our eyes with a fraudulent registration. I still doubt that happens with any such frequency that it would impact an election. And if people are doing it they are likely outnumbered by the numerous people who become disenfranchised by these laws because they don't have ID and cannot readily obtain one for this one civic duty.
