I've been a gardener for 60+ years. Some of the greatest benefits of gardening come from the physical (and sometimes mental) exercise of care (and concern for) the garden. Sure, this static thingy is an unusual phenomenon and a valid experiment - but not one I'd want myself. A hands-off garden - it's almost like the difference between having a doll and raising a child. Maybe if it gave me radishes or carrots on my birthday every year I might feel different - but probably not. J.
I don't know why, but that garden in a bottle fascinates me. I am with you though as far a gardening. I steered away from flower and vegetable gardening a couple of years ago. My gardens consist mostly of Asian themed bonzai type lay out and rock/zen gardens. I also have ponds ,large river rocks and palm trees. My neighbor and I often go to Home Depot together, and he likes to buy vegetables there. I buy him all kinds of neat varieties of Japanese vegetables there, and he plants them and shares his very extensive vegetable bounty with me. My wife and I just let ourselves in to his backyard whenever we want, and we pick whatever vegetables and fruits we want. Bottom line, I leave the extensive flower/vegetable gardening to others in favor of less maintenance type stuff now. It's a lot of upkeep.
I'm an avid gardener, fruits-veggies-nuts-and plants for all my adult life. I actually don't have any indoor plants though. It's pretty interesting! I will say, listening to the news report was painful though. Please kids, stay in school.
