I saw this article when I woke up this morning. She looks very brave.

I don't really know how I feel about the whole black lives matter vs. the blue line. It seems I can associate with both sides of the matter. Certainly anyone, including minorities of any race, should be able to expect equitable treatment from authorities. Living overseas for most of my life, I have seen racism on almost a daily basis. Most developing countries do not have the same expectations when it comes to discrimination that we do in America in my experience. On the other hand, our police forces have a job to do. Without them it would be chaos. I have lived in countries that have little to no law enforcement and rife with corruption. It is not a fun place to live. The issue that I see is that where is the balance between the two?

My son is in Baton Rouge and is enrolled at LSU. I am scared for him when I read these articles.

I think it is important to note that BLM for the most part is not an anti cop movement. I would call it more of an anti bad cop movement. They are not for the killing of innocent cops, nor should they be. The cops have a very difficult job to do of protecting us, but black people shouldn't have to worry about getting shot down by bad cops so much. This has to end! And the good cops should be for it as well. The police structure has to change so that when a bad cop is involved in a shooting, immediate and unbiased action should be taken against that cop. Other cops should not stand behind bad cops. The black community needs to feel safe and protected by the police just like any other group of people. BLM has protested the killing of innocent cops as well.

P.S. While I am at it. The culture of racist jokes needs to stop in police settings. This does not set a good example and carries over in to police work.

Disgusting to support killing ANY officer Abner! I know your liberal and all but to write the BS you do you should be ashamed. Cops are not running around killing us blacks. I was a Police Officer for awhile and I can say that my fellow black officers used force at a rate of 3 times a white officer. Also more whites are shot by police than blacks. As well as a black officer being 3.3 times more likely to fire his weapon than a white officer. So the facts are not supportive of this nonsense. A white male is way more likely to be (and is) victimized by blacks than the other way around. This nonsense is going to get more officers killed. It was a Mexican Officer that shot him any ways, Martin was shot by a mixed fellow to I recall.

On top of this all I hate the over hyped upsetness by non-blacks. We have to deal with all these whites and Latinos lying to make themselves feel better.

All officers joke about this stuff. Black, White, Brown and every other color. To deny human nature is insanity. Of course you are the guy who supports killing of "bad" officers.............but we as a society need to stop people from joking about stuff.

I don't support the killing of any cop, nor does BLM. You have your opinion, I have mine. I am not ashamed at all. You decided to parse my words. Okay, I do not support the killing of ANY cops, is that better? I think you know what I meant anyway.

Surprising New Evidence Shows Bias in Police Use of Force but Not in Shootings - http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/12/upshot/surprising-new-evidence-shows-bias-in-police-use-of-force-but-not-in-shootings.html?_r=2

A new study confirms that black men and women are treated differently in the hands of law enforcement. They are more likely to be touched, handcuffed, pushed to the ground or pepper-sprayed by a police officer, even after accounting for how, where and when they encounter the police.

But when it comes to the most lethal form of force — police shootings — the study finds no racial bias.

Just one of a many articles out there relating to the subject:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/study-finds-police-fatally-shoot-unarmed-black-men-at-disproportionate-rates/2016/04/06/e494563e-fa74-11e5-80e4-c381214de1a3_story.html

Let me be more specific. Cops shouldn't be making off color racial jokes when at work, nor should they be using government computer equipment to make such jokes. I have worked for two government agencies, and this was strictly prohibited. If you are caught making these off color jokes on the taxpayer dime, there should be consequences. What you do on your own time is your business.

Yeah, there certainly are a lot.

The one I quote is an actual study - An Empirical Analysis of Racial Differences in Police Use of Force, peer reviewed and published in an academic journal by the youngest AA professor to receive tenure at Harvard. Not an article about a database of other news articles from a small section in time.

It's pretty interesting. The only thing it misses, and all of the research I've read on this subject misses, is how black people react to the police. As in none of the research explores the difference between white and black reactions to police contact.

Of course, feeling like you are targeted will make you much more likely to react in a negative way(not me, if I knew I was targeted I'd be MORE compliant, but that's the Scandinavian in me), which might account for some the bias noted in the research I posted about. The research shows that police are more likely to handcuff, physically touch and use pepper spray in interactions with black people so there is some bias there, but NOT when it comes to shooting. One is too many, but the outrage is misplaced, manufactured, and used to sow the seeds of hate. It's disgusting

But people hate math. And raw data show a certain picture that can confuse people; while tweets, slogans, and pictures speak on a visceral level.

    Vox, rhymes with Fox.

Of course they'll have questions about it. All good scholarship requires questions, and hopefully leads to more research.

I clicked on the next article suggested by Vox, entitled: 3 Reasons Why The American Revolution Was Wrong.

You get arrested. It doesn't matter what you did (or didn't do as the case may be).

The cop says to you as he is driving you away "Yeah, you fundies are always doing x (where x is the crime you were arrested for)."

Then you get home and discover the same cop posts pictures on his Facebook about how he can't stand Christians, wishes they had all been fed to the lions the first time around etc.

You're just gonna shrug and say "Well, it's human nature to be a little offensive. No biggie?"

I'm going to have to call BS. You would be screaming persecution so loud it would rattle Ted Cruz's fillings.
