A university that counts both Ibn Khaldun and Maimonides as alumni? Wow.

You know that old saying of "Ignorance breeds fear and leads to hatred"?
In a past life, due to my father's work, we spent some time of my childhood in that city and not far away from that university.
Just reading the title of your thread made me think of it immediately before I clicked on the link lol.
After 9/11, many US schools were sending students for Arabic immersion programs there. Now, the divisive political climate in our country is widening the chasm and destroying some cultural bridges. The immersion programs there, Cairo and Amman are drying up.
I had read that the government spent quite a lot of money to renovate that university. Fes is considered a World Cultural Heritage city by UNESCO.
If you ever have the chance to go to Morocco, you should definitely spend at least a couple of days in Fes.
Our family still looks upon that time with extreme fondness.

Libraries are my happy place. I would love to visit it.

I know this one! “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” – Yoda

Thanks for this. It's a shame the result on conflict has been less such engagement rather than more.

If you enjoyed the article Kizmet cited (and I certainly did - thanks) you may like this site too - about other centuries-old African libraries undergoing restoration:
