Is Dr. Helen Caldicott for real? Or is she just another power-hungry lefty gone wrong? Heritage Corp.? Dave KC7WGB
Caldicott is a Cold war leftover... In Boulder, Colorado, Caldicott makles the rounds here almost every year or so.... I think her rants represent the way the old New Left's critiques have had there time while time has moved on. First, the Cold War thawed out, then Communism fell, and now, whatever else you think of the "war on terrorism," the march of time has moved on, and the old Anti-Cold War criticisms no longe carry the weight or relevance they once did! I'm sort of sad about it, but look at the Hitchens-Chomsky debate in The Nation last year...fizzle fizzle fizzle...the Left gets less and less important with each passing year--or take the observations of Todd Gitlin!--and the Left knows not what to do about it. The problem is that a healthy democracy needs a loyal opposition: as Ann Coulter points out in the first chapter of her new book "Slander!" once Clinton was out of office, all Paul Begalla et.al could recommend as a Democratic party strategy is "WHINE!" and "SMEAR!" This is no substitute for public debate--and the public is seeing through such antics...At least we deserve better andmore coherent leadership! --Orson
Nuclear winter - piece of cake. I've lived through 50 Canadian prairie winters and there isn't anything worse. As soon as I perfect my electric jock strap I will be wealthy enough to move south.
isn't the weather tough enough??? Have any of you guys read the accounts of the winter that never ended or the summer that never was in the 1800's? We are talking no fun. In some places they were down to stripping bark off trees to keep their cows for breeding alive. Even fairly subtle changes in the wether/climate affects mans ability to grow food. The comparatively minor flooding here in June covered corn plantings at the wrong time. The losts of crops with this minor flooding however is nothing compared to a nuclear winter. Countries no longer stockpile significant amounts of food. Think about the city/state you live in If food does not come in from other areas, how long could your state hold out? I am reminded of the jingoism that existed in Europe before WWI. Everyone thought if there was a war one side would win quickly. They were wrong. All the best!
Don't know about the winter But right now it feels like a Nuked Summer It sure is hot!!! Now, does this post make a member out of new or am I still known as "New Member"? Enjoy
