Or has reality set in. And has anybody done the research to find out that his father was a slave driver, and taught him, and showed him off and often got him out of bed in the middle of the night to practice. Or do we believe the " Good Will Hunting " fallacy that he " could just play "

    Beethoven...a slacker?

If I recall my biographical study (years ago) of Beethoven correctly, he struggled mightily with his compositions, agonizing over them through the years.

(Of course, the activity of composing isn't the same as "playing.")

But I believe Beethoven was at one with Einstein, who famously declared that he struggled all the more with his math--more so than us mere mortals!
