Beethoven...a slacker? If I recall my biographical study (years ago) of Beethoven correctly, he struggled mightily with his compositions, agonizing over them through the years. (Of course, the activity of composing isn't the same as "playing.") But I believe Beethoven was at one with Einstein, who famously declared that he struggled all the more with his math--more so than us mere mortals!
