Do they have a job description? How do I become one? Where can I find one? Do I need an advanced degree to become one? Is it just reading, writing, and getting published or is their more??

    Webster:
    Intellectual--
    1) a person with intellectual interests or tastes.
    2) a person engaged in intellectual work.
    3) a member of the intelligentsia.

Unless, of course, he wrote his PhD dissertation on the Lone Ranger.

    a genuine egghead

There are some well known stories of the classic absent minded professor, Norbert Weiner.
He was known to drive his car to campus and take the bus home? (now where's my car, the family would have to scour campus to find it)
He was riding on the bus and was looking over the shoulder of a student reading a book. He stated, "why this is complete poppycock". The student turned to the cover and it was written by one Norbert Weiner.
He would sometimes leave a dime under his breakfast or dinner plate at home. Thsi infuriated his wife who thought her service was much better than that.
He is shown on the cover of life magazine playing chess with one of his children. He hated chess and his daughter was winning.
    Alll the best!
