Thing is, there are lots of relationships just like this, they just aren't labeled the same way, or they're labeled under different guises.

At the end of the day, if two consenting adults agree to have a transaction like that, it should be their right.

I have to laugh at Kristen Houser's violence angle, but I guess I should expect that from a Women's Studies major (*snickers*). What a worthless degree.

Truth is, there is violence from dating sites of all kinds, just like there is violence in every sector of society AND against men as well which has been known to happen even MORE frequently at some points, yet it's rarely talked about, so I'm glad this article pointed that out.

Such an emblematic statement needs to be called out. It must certainly be a central tenet to your approach in life. Bravo.

When it comes to worthless degree majors like the toxic Women's Studies, Liberal Arts or most things titled "Nontraditional", absolutely.

    Call out what you will.

Engineering majors say "This is how we do things".

Sociology majors say "This is why we do things".

Psychology majors say "This is why the brain tell us to do things".

Women's Studies majors say "Would you like fries with that?"

Very nice. I think statements like these should stand on their own.

Bruce: "Women's Studies majors say 'Would you like fries with that?'"

Nancy Turner says: "For eight years, I have been senior program manager at the International Association of Chiefs of Police, managing millions of dollars in grants aimed at enhancing law enforcement's understanding of and response to crimes of violence against women. My Master's degree in women studies (George Washington University, 1990) helped me get this job, and helps in my work, most recently publishing a guidebook and roll-call training video for first responders on the crime of human trafficking, thus influencing the ability of individual officers to recognize and investigate these crimes in a manner that protects the dignity and rights of the victims while holding perpetrators accountable." Would you like fries with that?

My take: Maxwell and Bruce bet each other as to who could get a bigger rise out of Rich, whose buttons are among the most easily pushed on this forum.

    Bruce won. :sly:

Good God, can no one here except Steve L. take a joke??

A joke kind of loses a lot when you have to explain that it's a joke beforehand.

I took a joke once. It was this one:
    --------------------------------------
Heisenberg, Schrödinger, Ohm and a member of DegreeInfo are out for a ride. Heisenberg is driving.
    They get pulled over.
The cop asks him "Do you know how fast you were going?"
Heisenberg replies: "No, but I know exactly where I am"
The cop says "You were doing 55 in a 35 zone."
Heisenberg throws up his hands and shouts "Great! Now I'm lost!"
The cop thinks this is suspicious and orders him to pop open the trunk.
He checks it out and says "Do you know you have a dead cat back here?"
"We do now, asshole!" shouts Schrodinger.
The cop arrests Heisenberg and Schrödinger, but Ohm resists.
The member of DegreeInfoi asks the cop where he got his degree. The cop replies, LaSalle University.
The DegreeInfo guy says, "That's a joke."

Read it before - from Dr. Bear. Like him, it gets even better with age -- if that's possible. My vote for BEST JOKE EVER on DI.

Damn straight you did, John. TWICE!

Yes, I would like fries with that. But I think Bruce and Mr. Not-So-Smart are working the fryer today.

Or when it's not funny. Or when it's just a sexist gibe. You know, like that.

IIRC, that last part was true to a fault back in the day.

    C'mon Rich, really?

I've told that joke several times here, just with "Liberal Arts" instead of "Women's Studies", and nobody seemed to mind, including you.

The problem with thinking nothing of throwing around liberal talking points like sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc., is that they eventually lose their meaning, and become punchlines, as well as the subject of Saturday Night Live skits. Real issues of sexism, racism, etc., aren't taken seriously, because so many people cry "Wolf!" at the drop of a hat, or in an attempt to end a debate that they're losing.

Please show me where I expressed that I "didn't mind." Until then, you can leave off the "even you." You can just leave me out.

I'm afraid I have to agree, even though overall I'm definitely not a fan of collectivist studies departments.

Besides, I have an acquaintance who did a PhD in Women's Studies who got a tenure track position as a result (albeit in an English department). So it's not like it necessarily only leads to the bread line.

Bruce's joke was just bad comedic timing after Maxwell Smart's post making light of violence against women. I thought John Bear's post was funnier due to the irony of her working with people in Bruce's field. I also find it ironic that one with a women's studies degree can qualify for most jobs in the CJ field, including the minority that require a degree.
