99 Cents Only Stores | Learn more About Us

I have been going here for years. I buy my paint supplies there. They have premium paint brushes that are $12.00 each at Home Depot, for 99 centavos!!!! Blue painters masking tape - $7.99 at Home Depot = 99 cents! They actually have a good little hardware section. They have a variety of all the brand name condiments at low low prices. They also have some pretty fancy stuff in the frozen section including organic stuff. I don't actually pay extra to eat organic, but they have the stuff there for 99 cents, so what the heck! They also have Staples type office supplies there. Holiday decorations? You said it, la 99.

It's funny. I have a friend who is currently having some money problems. He has been at the 99cent store to buy supplies to make costumes for the Ren Faire, and other stuff like that. So anyway, I suggested that he buy his name brand cleaning products (among other things) at this store to save some duckets. This seemed like a revelation to him. What he heck? I also suggested that perhaps he should spend less time shopping at Nordstrom's, and shop at place like Ross. The guy has a genius IQ level, but little economic sense. Ay dio mio!

Your friends situation sounds interesting. How did his money problems arise? He has a genius level IQ, but is attending (and paying money to attend, buy costumes, etc.) Ren Faire's? What was he buying at Nordstrom? What does he do for a living?

Ex video game designer, now out of work and working at a much lower paying job. I would assume he buys various items of clothing at Nordstrom.

    Corey,

Let me clarify something for you once and for all, since I know you are being a smart ass and seem to like taking little double talking swipes at me. I have no problem with the accumulation of wealth. I see nothing wrong with shopping at Nordstrom. Hell, my parents, brother and sister shop there. Do you seem to think I was trying to make some kind of political statement? I come from a long line of story tellers. I tell stories about my life, as they unfold, in such a tradition. I tell all kinds of stories ranging from termites, to the my "nature adventures". For example, maybe a homeowner here can benefit from my home improvement stories amidst my various experiences. I like this place, and I don't do things like FB, twitter and all that other stuff. I feel at home here.

I sometimes speak of "economic" sense. To me, life is pretty much about common sense. For example, there was a real estate down turn some 24 to 25 years ago. I bought my first property at 24. I then decided to sell my town home (PUD), and buy a home, which I saw as a much better investment. As a result, I bought cheap, sort of like EL trompeta. I then bought the home I live in today shortly after. My first purchase was a Fannie Mae. I had other friends who decided to go out and buy things like boats, jet skis, motorcycles, etc. Some remain locked out of the housing market as a result. Who made the better investment.? I currently own two homes. I don't says these things to brag. But I made my choices, and some of my friends made their choices. Simple. I will own my home in ten short years. I say this with great pride, since it has been the result of good old fashioned hard work, and a result of making decisions in the way my parents taught me.

As far as the nice things in life. I enjoy them too. My weakness is nice cars. I love MBZ, I just like their craftmanship. I posted some pictures of my sweet ride, so I guess they are posted in the archives somewhere. What gave me the most pride was not the car though, it was the fact the I had a custom made "Aspen University" sticker made which I now display on the back window of my car upon my graduation.

Over the years, people have sought to pigeon hole me. Some have called me a union goon, a traitor, a anti-capitalist, anti military guy who runs at the site of such things as guns. I have been told that I just don't understand economics. In the end, I really don't care what people call me, since it has no bearing on my life. The fact is, I understand economics very well. It about dollars and cents. And no, I am not naive.

And for the record, I am a proud Democrat. A union man. I am pro military, since I come from a mostly military family. I am for for war under the right circumstances, and only as a last resort. And no, I don't go running in fear every time I see a gun.

I will say one thing. This guy talked me in to going to the Ren Faire, and I got to admit, I had a great time.

I had never been to the Ren Faire before.
