First - I'm very, very sorry to learn the boy lost his life.
Second - I agree, his decision to play around with a deadly weapon wasn't bright - at all.
Third - Although I can't help but feel sympathy for his tragic loss - isn't the real "knucklehead" the father, who left the pistol where his teenage son could access it?

Careless storage of a firearm is an offense where I live, but that doesn't matter. This man (the father) has already experienced a punishment far greater than any exacted by law. He has lost his son. And for that, I feel sympathy for him. The loss is out of all proportion to his mistake. Unfortunately, there is no do-over.

But there is, perhaps, a lesson for other fathers and other sons.

You are quite correct Johann. One false move with a gun, and it's over. I think people just get careless, and tend to forget they are handling a deadly weapon.
