I never put much stock in these ratings myself but it seems to me that simply having them disputed by some organization (might the AALS have a bias themselves?) does not automatically mean that they have been discredited, does it? My guess is that these ratings guides will continue to sell.

ALAS! Rankings reflect perception and perception sells! Valid or not, those rankings can matter a LOT to the school and its graduates.

The ABA and AALS have condemned the "rankings" business for years but I'll bet that the fat cats who do the hiring for major law firms hire according to school whether they are ABA members (or AALS officials) or not! A University of New Mexico degree (like mine), just doesn't carry the prestige of a Harvard JD. Not in government, not in Wall Street, and most of all, not in the academy itself!

    depends on the questions

Rating the top anything always depends on what questions get asked.
In VT the U. of VT has been a top 20 party school for decades. I would think that would make it more popular with corporations like bud., coors, & miller for exec. training. but no, I wonder why? LoL :)
    All the best!
