I was finally hired as an Adjunct Professor !
(Which was actually the first and only place that I applied to and interviewed at so I guess I'm batting 100%.)

I've taught in some vo-tech schools before, but this is my first university job. I'm excited about this opportunity.

  2. Congratulations, Ellis. Can you tell us where and what you'll be teaching?

    Thank you.

Yes ... I will. I want to get the contract finalized tomorrow first. ;)

(Side note: This will certainly help pay down my student loan!)

    Hi Ellis

Congrats on the position! From what you have posted, you've worked hard for it and deserve. It is nice to see the hard work pay off. Again congratulations!

    Congratulations!

BTW for future reference, they use thousandths for batting averages (without the decimal point) not percentages so, it's "I'm batting 1000."

Which reminds me of a true bar story.

This guy is talking to a mathematician at the bar and mentions the probablity of something is 50%. The mathematician says that probability is usually expressed as a number between 0 and 1. The guy is momentarily puzzled then gets a big grin and says, "HaHa, there are no numbers between 0 and 1."

The mathematician says, "What about one half?"

The guy replies thoughtfully, "Okay so there's one."

Actually, in baseball terminology, it's 1.000 for "batting a thousand". When Ted Williams hit .406 in 1941, he got a base hit a little over 40% of the time, an astounding feat.

Anyway....congratulations Ellis! I usually use adjunct teaching money to splurge on a vacation, a gift for the wife, etc., but in your case I think I'd sign the check directly over to the student loan people. :D

    To EllisZ:

    Congradulations!

    To Bill Huffman:

A "Senior Member" in a bar; what sort of example does that set for us "(Nothing) Members"?

Perhaps I should make it clear that the mathematician was a work associate and wasn't me. :)

Although I do occasionally enjoy a sip or two.

Again ... thanks for the comments everyone.

I was at the school today. It appears that this is a new course (CS related) and I have to develop it in the next two weeks.

Hmm .... I have to meet with HR later this week/early next week to finalize the contract, etc.

(It's all new to me, so I'm rolling with it.)

Oh yeah ... to all who asked me what the name of the school was (both here and in private mail) I still don't want to say until I finalize the paperwork. (I get overly paranoid ... sorry...)

It is an RA school and one that you have all heard of. More later.

does this mean bigger x-mas presents

    Congradulations!!!!!
Does this mean we can all expect bigger Christmas presents from you?
I think this reflects that work, perseverance and reflection do pay off.
    All the best!

    Well done, Ellis!

What a wonderful opportunity, and challenge, to design your first course (in two weeks, no less  ).

    Cheers,
