Nothing is quick in government it seems. I applied for and finally got a position I have been after. I was up against others that had the same, or more experience than I had. Many of my fellow applicants have MBA degrees from prestigious schools. My employer (personnel in Sacramento) performed the usual background check, and they check each and every degree to make sure they are not from a diploma mill. My employer does not differentiate between NA and RA. They check this book I used to call "the big black book". Their job is to ensure that a schools accreditor is listed with USDOE and CHEA.

Thanks to this forum, I learned about UA, NA and RA issues. I also heard many discussions about schools like CCU and Aspen. When I first joined this forum, CCU was UA. I kept tabs on them and then heard that they were in the process of seeking NA. The minute they became accredited, I enrolled so I could still get the very cheap UA tuition. I was able to quickly finish my BS because I transferred in my AA RA units, several UOI units, and credit I had piled up from taking many CLEPS and DANTES tests. I got a bargain and paid for it as I went. Debt free.

Later, I read good reviews about Aspen, so I transferred there and got my MBA. I paid a sum total of $4,200.00 and I paid as I went once again. The prices are much higher now, and I made a decision back then to jump on the cheap tuition while the offer was still on the table.

So, in short. My NA degree enabled me to compete against others who had expensive RA degrees, including some from very prestigious schools. One of my competitors is disappointed he didn't get the job. Plus, he is still paying off his student loans from the fancy school he went to. I feel bad for the guy.

For the newbies that may be reading this - check with your employer to determine if a NA degree will be ok. Also, check with any licensing agencies to make sure a NA degree will be suitable for your purposes. NA degrees have certain limitations.

I am alternating between being happy and sad. I will have to leave the office that has become my home for many years, and is five minutes from my house. But sometimes we have to leave our comfort zone. I am even going to go check out those fancy new fangled smart phones, as I will probably need it for my new job.

    Have a good day!

It's a beautiful day! Wish me luck:

Thanks for the nice well wishes everybody!

I really appreciate your kind words and well wishes. If it hadn't been for this board, I might not have had the appropriate "buckskins" to land this job.

I have to start getting ready to go to the Ren Faire. I had planned on attending with my friend Craig and some other friends. Now it has turned in to me being dressed up in costume! Geez! Should be fun though. I just hadn't planned on wearing a costume.
