Dems amp up charges of voter suppression in Wisconsin | TheHill

This comment is kind of telling:

"I think Hillary Clinton is about the weakest candidate the Democrats have ever put up," Grothman told an NBC affiliate in Milwaukee. "And now we have photo ID, and I think photo ID is going to make a little bit of a difference as well."

"At issue are a series of new voting guidelines enacted by Walker and Wisconsin Republicans beginning in 2011. They include a new photo ID mandate, the elimination of some early voting and new restrictions on individual registration and absentee voting".

"Providing an additional layer of intrigue, Wisconsin is also home to Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner(R-Wis.), a former Judiciary Committee chairman who's been pressing his fellow Republicans to update the 1965 Voting Rights Act (VRA) following the 2013 Supreme Court decision, which eliminated a central provision designed to fight race-based discrimination at the polls"

"Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has said he supports Sensenbrenner's VRA bill but won't act on it unless the Judiciary panel does so first. Ryan's "bottom-up" approach likely means the proposal is dead this year, as the committee is headed by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), who opposes the legislation"

These tactics are essential--along with gerrymandering, closing/limiting polling sites, limiting early voting, making registration more difficult, etc.--to maintain minority rule. They serve to delay the inevitable, however, and will eventually be overcome by democratic means. It will be like a dam bursting, however, and a lot of people counting on these things to bulwark their undeserved privileged status will drown (figuratively) when it does.

Did someone mention voter suppression? Call me crazy, but I have the feeling that the Black Panthers aren't supporting any Republican candidate.

You have to show ID to buy a beer, board a plane, rent a car, withdraw large sums from a bank, and countless other daily tasks. Why are the Democrats so vehemently against showing ID to vote?

Because, then all the dead people on the voting lists can't pull a Lazarus and fill in the blank for the (D) candidates, and the live people can't vote 5-6 times under different names.
