Diploma Fees

    The quite outrageous (to me) story about honorary degrees posted by Gert Potgieter here got me thinking about diploma fees. It seems that $120,000 is the going price for an honorary doctorate from Wisconsin International University, which is perhaps the biggest waste of money I've ever seen in my life.

    This got me thinking about what I paid for my diplomas (the actual pieces of paper). From what I can remember;

    A.S. Quincy College- Commencement fee was $75, which included the diploma.

    B.A. Curry College- Didn't beat around the bush, $50 diploma fee, independent of commencement fees.

    M.A. UMass-Lowell- Free of charge, I didn't pay any type of commencement, graduation, or diploma fees. Nor did I press the issue.

    Anyone else?

    You mean UM-L just gave you the diploma free, at no cost whatsoever? :D

    Re: Re: Diploma Fees

    Yep...they didn't ask, so I didn't ask. I also did the whole degree program for free, I had all tuition and fees waived because I'm a wartime Veteran (Persian Gulf). I just had to pay for books, the GRE exam, and application fees.

    MA law requires state schools to waive all tuition for resident wartime Veterans in undergrad programs, and it's optional for graduate programs. I was fortunate that UM-L honored the waiver for grad students, although I think they've since discontinued it. The undergrad law is still on the books, and it would be interesting to find out if that is extended to DL students who are MA residents.

    What an excellent opportunity, Bruce. You were blessed to have all the fees waived.

    Now if I could only find a RA Ph.D. program that would do the same for me. ;)
