I know it's a bit clunky but I didn't have a lot of time. A barrel of sweetpoints to the first finished puzzle.

    Oh, this is so cool!

I'm going to bed straight from here, but I'll work on it tomorrow, even if I'm too late to be the winner.

I can tell that this is going to be very hard for people who are new here. Some of these references are from the early days, even before my time here. I have the advantage in that when I was a noob, I was enthralled by reading the archives and I'm familiar with some of the people referenced- but don't count on me to give away any answers here :p

    Thanks for doing this, Kiz.

Hmmm. Sorry, it was there and then it wasn't. I'll try to figure it out but if any of the other Mods can wave a magic wand in this direction I'd appreciate it.

OK, I recreated the puzzle three or four times on different sites and couldn't get it to transfer over to degreeinfo so I had to post a link to the puzzle. It looks completely different now because this version was made using a different puzzle generator but the clues/answers are the same. Have fun

Even the Times puzzle changes in a week. I'm going to have topost the answers soon because armoredpenguin won't hold the puzzle forever.

I'll admit that it was too hard for *me* but I'm not especially good at word puzzles. I still think it's super cool. :)

When I was in junior high, a weekly family ritual was doing the Saturday Review of Literature double-crostic together. One solved the clues, entered the letters in the diagram, which spelled out a quote from a book, and the first letters of each clue, read vertically, spelled out the name of the author and title of the quote. (http://tinyurl.com/occ4wlg) We all grew quite addicted to this. My father later wrote that the absolute highlight of his writing career was when the revelation came to him, halfway through one week's puzzle, that he was the author, and his recently best-selling novel was the title and the quote.

In a similar vein, I am honored to be two clues in Kizmet's fine puzzle -- well, 2.1666 if one adds in the "Gang of Six" clue. And speaking of said gang, I find myself wondering if there was ever agreement on who the original six were. These eleven come to mind. Fairly confident about the first four.
SL CW JB BG TN BT KH TH RD GB RB
For bonus points: which of these eleven ended up in prison, and why? (Sorry, LC, it is not I.)

I'll take those bonus points, John. I could use them!

This happened before my forum time, but I learned from the degree-forums that BG was incarcerated (Memphis TN) and was due out in 2012. I read that it was a federal charge, "something to do with stolen computers or appliances."

Never knew BG, but I also read - from someone who would know - that he was a talented and dedicated researcher of degree mills. I hope past problems are all dealt with now and that things go well for him.

Just for the record - not dissing him at all - I once thought RD was one of the "Original Gangstaz" too. However, he doesn't feel he should be known as a home-boy. Here's his reply to me (another forum) from 2012 when I raised the subject:

"The "Gang" were a bunch of good people doing some good things. There were others who were extremely active during that time, including me. But no, I wasn't called out as a member of the Gang."

Finally found it. Here's the story of the Gang of Six, with names.

    http://www.degreeinfo.com/introductions/30583-about-degreeinfo.html

First five of the Original Six appear to be CW, RB, BG, TN, BT. I'm presuming SL and JB were probably Gangstaz 6 and 7 - but in what order I have no idea. Before my time - I'm just a young guy (72).

If by TH you mean Ted Heiks, I came to these boards in 2005, too late to ber one of the Gang of Six. And TH, if you mean me, hasn't gone to prison yet.
