Allegheny coach resigns. Snippet: The head football coach at tiny Allegheny College has resigned after school officials said Wednesday that they learned of discrepancies in his resume. Blair Hrovat never received a bachelor's degree from Edinboro University in 1985 as he had claimed, the school said in a statement. Hrovat has been the head coach at Allegheny since 1998.
It's always the jocks. I guess there wasn't enough music appreciation or basket weaving courses to form a solid major.
Dennis: "It's always the jocks..." John: I think that it is the jocks who are more likely to be exposed, because their comings and goings are much more newsworthy than those of mere professors of physics or philosophy. I mean, how often do you see an article the the national press headlined, "Notre Dame Hires New Associate Professor of Chemistry." An assistant attorney general in California told me 20 years ago that he had checked the credentials of every faculty member on one campus of the state university system, and that 5% of the claimed credentials didn't check out. Of course there would be some name changes and some clerical errors, but still that seemed quite a high figure to me.
why??? I wonder if more jocks lie about their credentials? or whether they are more prominent? In the most public cases the information has been available for many years, even for the jocks. All the best!
