  2. She also incorrectly said she had a degree from regionally-accredited National University.

I found the reported comments by Cal Coast registrar Barbara Posthuma more interesting: "Posthuma says you have to have a campus to be accredited; CCU has no plans to change its status from a distance learning university." I hope she didn't really say this -- it's standard "mill speak."

In another life I taught evening courses in accounting to adults for a couple of different community colleges. I apparently was used as a reference although I didn't recognize the name.

I looked up the individual's record and she had handed in one assignment and never reappeared. Fake degrees - what about fake intro accounting?

Well, somebody better let Capella and Jones International know, so that they can quickly build campus before the North Cetral Assoication of Schools and Colleges finds out.

Besides, doesn't Cal Coast have that wonderful campus on Main Street in Santa Ana?

It's not entirely ridiculous here in California though. WASC has shown a reluctance to accredit DL-only schools.

When it comes to accrediting small specialized institutes, from CIIS and ITP to Pacifica and Fielding, WASC has shown itself to be quite progressive. But pretty much all of these little places have their own instructional facilities (in CIIS' case a few floors in a drab San Francisco office building), and offer classroom instruction as well as DL.

As you allude, this wasn't a quote. The actual quote could differ dramatically from what the writer wrote.

WASC doesn't accredit any schools offering the doctorate without any residency. As Bill notes, there have been a few accredited who require very limited residency. But it is safe to say that if the only thing between CCU and accreditation was a short residency period, they would likely implement it. CCU isn't accredited because it isn't accreditable.

  7. OK. Though several Californian schools (CNUAS, Taft, American Graduate University, CCHS, Concord) have chosen to pursue DETC accreditation. Accreditation of Unisa would seem to have destroyed the DETC guideline that a university cannot have bachelor's and master's programs accredited by DETC and at the same time retain doctoral programs (in Unisa's case, offered by the same departments that offer the accredited programs).

Peter, I knew you would not be able to leave us. We have formed such a family of sorts, it is very difficult to abandon one's relatives.

BTW, I just received a coupon for four free meals at a nearby Outback Steak House. Can't wait to get that "Chocolate Thunder from Down Under." ;)

Ok, I just want to know if this is the REAL Peter French, or if that is the one on AED that posted,"Peter French - kicked out of degreeinfo"? http://groups.google.com/groups?(q=author:pjfrench%40CarlyleEducation.com.au&hl=en&lr=&selm=vabO8.8%24m47.1317%40nsw.nnrp.telstra.net&rnum=4)

  12. Peter has come back to degreeinfo after serving his term in exile, and many of the degreeinfo gang are going back to AED. What a wonderful balance there is to the world... :)

Hmmm. Sounds logical but the AED post was from 2 or 3 days ago. He had post here a day or 2 before that and a day or two after. ?????
