Today, it looks like 42 percent of the United States stock market has been frozen by regulators, while the Chinese stock market is in a free-fall bear market.

The stock market is doing unprecedented and strange things, possibly due to the over-computerization of it:
    1. Computers competing with other computers, based on algorithmic speed that humans cannot beat.
    2. The over-machination of the stock market is unprecedented.

Without intervention or regulation, algorithmic machination may eventually crash the global electronic stock market; excess algorithmic machination may precipitate the next stock freeze-up.

More to come over the next few months. Stay tuned.

Normally Bitcoin users would be crowing over this, but interestingly Bitcoin is also under attack. Someone is making a large number of very small Bitcoin transactions, which has the effect of clogging the distributed process for verifying transactions so that no one can make timely payments right now.

That "someone" consist of multiple owners of corporate algorithmic computers that are simultaneously competing against each other in fractional seconds -- and are subsequently overwhelming the electronic or software capabilities of the stock market.

Multiple algorithmic computers are making instant, multiple (millions?) of transactions almost for free; and if the market makes penny moves (either up or down), then the free algorithmic transactions are able to make millions of dollars. Algorithms allow computers to instantly change directions. This is unprecedented in market history. It is overwhelming the system -- and more algorithmic computers are joining the fray.

Conversely, slow-moving humans are charged for each transaction (for example, Scottrade charges humans $7 per trade).

The stock market was originally created to raise capital, but algorithmic computers are designed to make billions of dollars off "market moves." Algorithmic computers have absolutely nothing to do with raising capital (at least in the original sense).

In the early 20th Century, the primary function of the stock market was to raise capital for enterprising businesses. Algorithmic computers have bastardized the original function of the stock market. Something will eventually burst, but no one knows exactly how or what the effects will be. Will people eventually flee the stock market to escape from algorithmic machinations manipulations?

The only way to put a stop to this machination manipulation is to significantly increase the cost of each algorithmic transaction to the same as what it cost a human i.e. $7.

Are those the "Illuminati" that Kizmet talks about?

Mmmmmmm just plain old human ingenuity, motivated by greed.

As noted, I was referring to Bitcoin.

Please see my "Conspiracy Theory " thread for a real story about the Illuminatti. Don't get me started about those naughty boys.

I dated a schizophrenic for 1.5 years before she had a schizoid breakdown. For the first 1.5 years, she was completely normal e.g. she had a degree is psychology and was very bright. In a 48 hours period, she had a schizoid breakdown where she suddenly started saying some bizarre things, to include:

    - My father is a member of the Illuminiti and he is secretly helping to rule/control the world.

    - The government is sending electromagnetic waves/pulses into her home to influence her thoughts. As proof: Her dog had one eye that was slightly larger than the other, which is a byproduct of governmental EMP transmissions into her home.

    - My mother is a witch (the kind that does magic).

    - My sister-in-law is being tortured.

    - et al, ad nauseum.

She had a complete break from reality. Some of those conspiracy theories are pretty close to that. An outstanding movie about schizophrenia is called, "A Beautiful Mind." It's awesome. There are people who genuinely believe false (bizarre) things that have no basis in reality.
