too sad about BBK's passing. I used to live with a college roommate who was a fellow history major and dj for the college radio station. His name was Scott Gandhi. He liked BB King too. I am so musically illiterate that I wouldn't know it if I had the radio on and BB King was singing. I once loaned him a record of mine so that he could play 'This Is The End' as the very last song on his very last shift on the college radio station. Also in his last shift, he played a song called "I'm Never Gonna Go To School Again," which was either Dr.m Dementio or Wierd Al Jankevich doing a spooof on "Careless Whisper" by Wham which famously had that line about "I'm Never Gonna Dance Again ... Guilty Feet Have Got No Rhythnm."

When I was on David Letterman in the late 80s -- one of the very few cooking demonstrations he ever did -- NBC gave me the royal treatment -- first class flight to New York, fancy hotel (Meridien), etc. But "my" limo was late getting to JFK, so they had me share their other limo -- with B B King. I wish I could say we had a fascinating conversation about Lucille or distance learning -- but he was in the back, and I was in the front, with the partition closed. He was at breakfast the next morning. (The hotel featured a $1,000 breakfast fritatta. (Parker Meridien’s $1000 Frittata a Cool Stunt | What's Next Blog) I was told I couldn't order that. Wonder if King was told that, too?)

Easy! Just order two $500 ones instead!

I have great memories of seeing B.B. King play more than once in Western New York in the 80s. Over the years I got to see some other famous artists in the same venue - Art Park, Lewiston NY. Ray Charles, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Moe Koffman, Dizzy Gillespie, to name a few. Sadly, I note we've lost Diz, Ray, Junior and Moe some time ago.

I still remember how I felt in the late 50's when I first heard B.B. sing and Lucille answer! I especially liked his 1971 album, "Live in Cook County Jail," - and no, I wasn't one of the prisoners - not at that time, anyway!
