    Being in the space business I have given some thought to colonizing a distant earth-like planet (assuming one can be found and traveled to in several light years). To live and survive at the same level as in todays western civilization the colonists would hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people. Think of all the trades and specialties needed to provide the stuff we take for granted from food to electronics to medicine to civil engineering to journalists to name a few. So I think colonizing other worlds will not be possible for millennia if not ever.

    This topic would make for a great humanities thesis or dissertation.
