Can someone help me? Any suggestions? The fax machine goes through the motions mechanically, but the print does not show up. It is not saying it needs new ink, so that is not the problem. This is a combo fax/printer machine.

Please advise, I would appreciate it.

How old is the cartridge? (The gas gauge on your car might say it's full but that doesn't mean you can drive forever. Maybe the gauge is busted).

BTW, I hate it when my machines start wonking.

The ink could be dried out and/or the cartridge clogged towards the tip. Try taking the cartridge out and shaking it, and removing whatever gunk might be hanging out on the bottom. If the buildup is bad, you might have to drill a hole (carefully!) in a safe place, stick something in there to swish it all around, then plug up the hole with something like duct tape or a clean sweep of super glue.

Now, your cartridge very well might be teetering on E. As Kizmet said, it's possible that the guage isn't supplying accurate information. In my printer, there is a laser that shines into the ink cartridge, and it gauges the fluid level by whether or not the laser shines through to a sensor on the other side. If yours is the same, it is possible that something is obstructing the laser's trajectory. This could be caked up in, as I mentioned in the first paragraph, or it could be a buildup of dust or something else that just so happened to fall in just the right place. The result would be that your sensor is telling you that the cartridge is full, when it is not.

Lastly, and most devastatingly, it could be that whatever apparatus supplies pressure to the ink is malfunctioning. In that case, the only two things I'm able to tell you is that you either need to take it to a professional or get a new one. :blackeye:

(in the voice of Montgomery Scott) "...but Captain, I'm giving it all she's got but the laser trajectory has gone a bit wonkish."

You know, of course, that you would not be having this problem if all of your degrees were from regionally accredited schools.

As usual, the O.P. is a typical request for information in which we are not given enough information – like asking about a school without including its web address. Or a trucker getting on the C.B. radio and saying, “Hey, guys, there’s a bear… um, over there.”

To wit, what is the brand and model number of the printer? Is it laser or inkjet? Are you having the same problem in print mode or in scan mode (assuming it has a scanner)? And did you try running it through a print head cleaning cycle?

Yes, here we have yet another example of the superiority of the regionally accredited mindset.

    Love to all.

Good to hear from you Doc!

You got me got me good! I will admit I am inferior to you, no doubt about it (and I am not being sarcastic). I have an old school MFC Brother fax machine. My wife won it in a lottery several years ago. I am also technologically challenged!

Sorry Abner I could not resist: If it is not wonking properly, probably an Oompa Loompa was playing with it.

    :haha:

but I don't mind saying that I've used a fax machine several times in the last 8 or 10 weeks.

starting to sound like a 12 step meeting

    That's hilarious!!!

One this note, my cat probably know more about computers than I do. She once hit one of the computers key board keys and managed to completely mess it up!! Ay dios mio!

I am also in awe of truck drivers. It takes true skill and bravery I would say to drive those giant things. I tip my hat to you kind sir! I get nervous just driving a large truck. You are a true renaissance man. Plus, I can't find my way out of a paper bag.
