We had something like that at our flag ship university on the other side of the state from me. Although not as big and widespread as the UNC case, there certainly were cases where atheltes took certain classes to maintain their eligibilty. In the UW case it was Swahili courses. One football player earned 15 credits over the summer in Swahili to maintain eligibilty.

Every school has its jock majors (i.e African American Studies, Communications, Recreational Studies, etc) I wonder how many of the schools from the power 5 conferences would stand up to prolonged scrutiny of these "academic" areas?
