I just watched Remember the Titans. I was not impressed. Moral of the story: racism is bad. Ok, gotcha. Rather than character development, we get some people who remain unchanged throughout the movie and some that changed in an instant. Rather than plot development, we get a number of throwaway scenes with a few "big" moments that have no build up, but somehow are entirely predictable and are not shown to have any lasting impact. Then, just when we are celebrating their huge state championshipvictory , we instantly fast forward 10 years to the funeral of one of the main characters. Then the movie ends. :footinmouth:

Based on a true story. It's hard to believe that the movie did the real life events any justice.

    What are you watching?

I have been watching a long string of stand up comedy videos on youtube. Most recent: Margaret Cho. I will be watching the new version of The Hobbit as a way of preparing to watch The Battle Of The Five Armies.

It was throwback night in our household tonight. We watched Casablanca and North by Northwest.

I'm still sick today, and am yet to even try to pick up a book in this condition  So I started watching the first season of Cheers on Hulu. I had never seen a complete episode before and now understand what I have been missing this whole time. It a nice show. Very simple set up- the bar comes off as the perfect setting for giving us a snapshot of many different people's intersecting lives.

I thought I was done watching television series for good (overall, I think that books and movies are better time investments for entertainment), but there are a few series that I love and would like to see more of (Seinfeld, Frasier, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, now Cheers) and others that I've never seen before and am curious about (M*A*S*H). I guess there is a lot to be said for a fictional universe that has a many-years-long story arc as opposed to a one-off or trilogy story arc.

As long as I only watch stuff while I'm either sick, doing chores around the home, or working out, I do this while avoiding being a couch potato. :)

I'm watching the trailer of Annabelle. I can't wait to finally see it on big screen and scream to death, lol. I'm not sure if anyone here is interested in horror movies. I hope you could suggest a good movie to scare me :)

I don't watch television very often, but when I do, it's usually geek tv like the History Channel.

NFL is in season so I try to catch Broncos games when able. I am also looking forward to The Big Bang Theory starting up a new season.

Perhaps. On the other hand, if you go to T.C. Williams, like my eldest does, it's pretty cool there's a movie about your school. (No, he doesn't play football, or even care about it much, but he's in marching band, so he's at all the games.)

You'll have to, since there's so much diversion from the source material that reading the book won't help you. :irked:

I just finished watching Citizen Kane, which I rented from YouTube. I mean, I just finished two minutes ago. Maybe I'm not one of the cool kids, but I found it a chore to sit through. It may be the greatest movie of all time, I mean, at least I'll take everyone else's word for it. I just didn't find it fun nor compelling to watch and I found the main character to be really, really unlikable. Consider it a check in the box, however.

Say, now. That IS pretty cool!

I have found The Blacklist and find it engrossing. James Spader was already one of my favorite actors thanks to Boston Legal, but Raymond Reddington is the role he was born to play.

Tonight I'll be watching Once Upon a Time at 8, and then the season premiere of the Walking Dead at 9.

I liked James Spader as Ray Reddington, too. But it got convoluted and involved torture, so I quit watching. Flying body parts and torture I have no tolerance for any more - so I quit Criminal Minds (my teenage granddaughter's favourite -she likes the guys) and all CSI-type shows.

    My current favourites are:

Murdoch's Mysteries - Canadian show about a Toronto detective of the late 1890s and early 1900s. It stars Yannick Bisson, a Canadian actor, whose work I've liked for years. He used to be on the U.S. program about a deaf FBI agent, "Sue Thomas F.B. Eye" as Sue's co-worker Jack Hudson. He also does some work on Canadian children's TV.

Foyle's War - A British series (13 seasons) dealing with crimes in W.W. II England. The title role (Detective Chief Superintendent, Christopher Foyle) is played by Michael Kitchen. His police-issued car is a fine vintage "Cop Wolseley 6/18"- one of my favourite marques. Many other British cars of the 20s and 30s - some of which I remember well from my boyhood days in England. There's even a website, "Foyle's Car" devoted to cars appearing in the series.

BBC documentaries - Neil Oliver's Vikings, History of Scotland etc. Joanna Lumley's Nile series. "Coast" "Victorian- Edwardian Farm" etc. Other historical series, with David Dimbleby, Dr. David Starkey and other BBC luminaries.
