Okay, I need to buy an 8 year old an MP3 player with a docking station of some kind (speaker bar) and do not want to spend $200+ for an Apple product. he tends to lose things at school and his parents would freak out on him.

Any suggestions for a cheap MP3 player with a speaker bar? If they are reasonable enough I would get him 2 MP3 players so if he loses one it would not be a big deal.

iPod Shuffles are only $50 dollars for the 2GB version. There are also a variety of docking stations and speakers options (headphones would be better, right?) out there as well. Anywhere from $30 and up for docking and speaker options.

Other than that one, I bought my son a SanDisk Clip Zip and it was pretty awesome as well. However we never did try any speaker options with it, just used headphones. If I remember that one came with either 4GB or 8GB.

There are quite a few options out there. Good luck.

The sans clip is what I personally use..... around $50 for the MP3 then there are a ton of external speaker set ups that you can buy and just hardwire in. And it is not an apple product!
