The three websites I frequent the most are amazon.com, degreeinfo.com, and facebook.com. My problem with the pop-ups started with amazon.com, but there were no problems with degreeinfo and facebook. Now, I'm having this pop-up problem with degreeinfo. How do I figure out whether the problem is with my own computer or whether the problem is with the specific sites I visit. As if you haven't guessed yet, I know very little about computers. So, if you answer me, please phrase your answers as if you are talking to a common goddamn idiot, because that is exactly who you will be talking to.

OK, so the big silver or black rectangular thing there on your lap is either your Valentine candies or your computer. The lumpy thing at the end of your arm, with the 5 or 6 wiggly bits is your hand. Apply one of the wiggly bits to the Preference menu, probably at the top of your screen when you open your browser (probably Safari, FireFox, Chrome*). One of the Preference choices is probably "Security". When I click on "Security," one of the boxes I can now check says, "Block Pop-up Notices" -- and Bob's my uncle.

**Actually I have grown fond of the browser called DuckDuckGo, for reasons that are apparent when you open it. Take that, NSA (I think).
