  1. Most of the degreeinfo posts involving Hawai'i are about unaccredited schools. So, just for some variety, I thought I'd post some news of a different sort: University of Hawai'i-Hilo to graduate its first distance-learning students.

    A snippet:
    • Two students from Maui and two from O'ahu will receive degrees this weekend from the University of Hawai'i-Hilo as the first distance learners who took most of their classes off-island via the Internet and Hawai'i Interactive Television. They are the first UHH graduates from this high-tech program, but probably not the last. Seventy-four students were enrolled for the spring semester in such wide-ranging distance-learning courses as computer science and Hawaiian studies. ...

Hmmmm. During my time with Greenwich University (1990-91), we lived near the UH-Hilo campus, and became friendly with its (then) president, Ed Kormondy,* who became intrigued by and, I think, even impressed by some of the distance learning things Greenwich was doing in his neighborhood. Could there be any connection? We may never know.

    * My introductory letter, with Greenwich catalog,
mentioned that the arrival of two Bears and one Australian
barrister quadrupled (according to the Mensa directory) the
number of Mensa members on the Big Island. (Kormondy was the only one.)

I would think there is a connection, John. Wherever the Apostle Paul went he incited either a revival or a riot. Your pioneering work in DL has caused much the same response. The DL advocates commend your work, the degree mill proponents hate it. ;)
