Any tips, advice on writing a CV is appreciated!
Areas of interest include: academics, medical and research.
I noticed some CV's that include all military schools, continuing education and go on forever. Is there a page limit? Thank you all in advance!

    Method:

Take everything you've ever done, been around, thought about doing, almost did, might someday do and dump it into an MS Word file.
    Add the kitchen sink.
    Format.
    Send.

(I've been in the workplace since 1977. I have a 1-page resume that works. The CV is the exact opposite of that.)

Rich makes the important distinction between a resume and a CV. Many people would start with the resume, and have the CD to send later if asked.

I find it troublesome that many companies now use bots to scan job applications looking for key words, to select the tiny percentage that a human will then review.

A friend in England reports building a CV using the advice on this site -- How to Write a killer CV - Feature | PharmiWeb.com -- which looks pretty sound to me, but would, of course, need to be adjusted for the country you are in.

Actually I found the automated system my company used meant that I received resumes within minutes after they were submitted to the company. The computer system compared key words in my job request with key words in the applicants resume. I often called an interesting applicant within hours of receiving his resume. I set up interviews and if I liked the applicant I then requested HR check him out and make an offer. After a company receives a big contract a quick staff up is mandatory to keep on schedule.

I'm pretty sure you meant "have the CV to send later..." but some especially experienced and qualified people probably do need a CD to hold all the info. (smile)
